Single-Vehicle Accident Lands Man in Jail

Just days after Christmas, a Pensacola man is in jail for allegedly trying to crash his girlfriend’s car into a tree. The twist is that the girlfriend was behind the wheel. Fortunately, the woman suffered only minor injuries and no other people were hurt as a result of the man’s alleged actions.

According to an arrest report from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, a 34-year-old man has been charged with attempted vehicular homicide. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on December 22 near Nine Miles and Jernigan roads.

The victim in the incident told officers that her ex-boyfriend jumped into her vehicle while she was at a gas station. The woman began driving and the man told her she would not be happy unless she was with him. He then allegedly told the woman that she was going to die and pushed her leg down so she was forced to apply pressure to the accelerator.

The man then allegedly turned the steering wheel, aiming for an area off the road. The vehicle missed hitting large pine trees but ran into smaller ones. The car eventually came to a stop along the woodline. The man then jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Deputies located the man a short time later and took him into custody.
