Jul 28, 2017

A man from Mobile, Alabama was struck by an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy recently. The man, according to the state highway patrol, was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.

According to reports, an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy was driving on West Fairfield Drive in an easterly direction. The pedestrian attempted to cross the street and the deputy swerved out of the way. The deputy was not able to completely avoid the man, striking him with the passenger side mirror of the cruiser.

The accident occurred on July 25 at around 10:30 p.m. The sheriff’s department has not released any other details of the accident nor has the highway patrol who is conducting the investigation. The highway patrol did say that the pedestrian suffered only minor injuries.

Law enforcement officials urge anyone crossing a street to do so at an intersection with a marked crosswalk. In the event that you do need to cross where no marked walk is present, only do so at an intersection and after looking both ways. If you see an oncoming car, wait to cross.
