Pedestrian crossing dangerous road in bad weather

Pedestrian Accident in Pensacola

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking in the roadway. The accident occurred on Michigan Avenue after dark.

Reports indicate that a 63-year-old man was walking on Michigan Avenue just before 9 p.m. Another man was driving a truck, traveling west in the left turn lane. The man driving the truck did not see the pedestrian in the roadway, and the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk. The man who was hit was taken to a local hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police are investigating the crash to determine if charges will be filed.

In the meantime, officials are reminding people that if they choose to walk at night, they should stay on the sidewalk or as far to the side of the roadway as possible. Carrying a flashlight or a glow stick will enhance visibility. Also, pedestrians are urged to stick to marked crosswalks when attempting to cross a street and to always cross at a nearby intersection when available.
