A six-month-old infant was a victim in a fatal car accident earlier this month. The child survived the accident but later died of her injuries. Following the crash, the infant was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Her initial condition was originally listed as “guarded.”
According to police reports, the infant was a passenger in a car being driven by her father. Her mother was also a passenger. The father was driving along State Road 85 when another vehicle turned in front of the family’s car. Reports indicated that the infant was properly restrained in a safety seat.
The child’s mother was an employee of Okaloosa County School District. She was on maternity leave at the time of the accident. A spokesperson for the district called the accident a terrible tragedy and sent thoughts and prayers on behalf of the district.
The driver of the SUV involved in the accident was an elderly woman. She and her two passengers were injured in the wreck and transported to local hospitals. All had been treated and released as of Tuesday.
Police did not immediately say why they believe the accident occurred and no charges had been filed at the time of the report. The infant’s parents were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.
