Child Victim of Hit-and-Run

Dec 08, 2017

A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured earlier this week as soon as she got off the school bus in Pensacola. The child was walking across the road after exiting the bus when she was struck by a vehicle.

According to reports, the accident happened on Massachusetts Avenue in the city. The bus was stopped and facing westbound. The bus had its warning lights activated. The child crossed in front of the bus and made it through the westbound lane. A vehicle traveling eastbound failed to notice the child as she entered the vehicle’s lane of travel and hit the girl.

The driver fled the scene of the accident and was looked for soon after. Police received a tip that the vehicle was in the parking lot of a local Walmart and responded. Troopers found the vehicle and noticed front-end damage, including scuff marks from what could have been the child’s shoes.

A woman was located ordering food inside a Chinese restaurant. Upon questioning, she admitted to having hit the child and driving away. She was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury and failure to stop for a school bus involving injury.
