What is a disc bulge?

When a person is the victim of an accident or other traumatic event in Pensacola, they may ultimately be diagnosed with a disc bulge. This type of injury involves the discs within the spinal column that absorb shock. As a result of injury, a disc may swell and push out of alignment with the spine. When a disc is forced out of its normal alignment, it is said to have bulged.

A bulging disc is not always painful. Because of this, they frequently go undiagnosed. It is only when a bulging disc causes other issues that it is discovered. For example, a victim of an accident may experience tingling, numbness or pain in the fingers, hands, arms, neck or shoulders. A person may have difficulty walking normally or without discomfort. Lower back pain and spasms in the back or legs can also indicate a bulging disc.

A disc may bulge for a number of reasons. Some of these include natural wear and tear, occupational hazards and poor posture. Trauma or injury to the back sustained in an accident of some type can also cause a disc to bulge. In most cases, a bulging disc is something that occurs over time rather than being acute. Typically, an accident causes an already bulging disc to become worse. In other instances, an accident can cause some type of damage to the spinal column which eventually leads to a bulging disc.

If you have been injured in an accident in Pensacola or diagnosed with a bulging disc due to trauma sustained in an accident, you may have legal rights to compensation. An experienced personal injury attorney can offer you assistance.
