The search for a missing jet skier has been suspended by the Coast Guard. The Alabama teenager went missing after the jet ski he was riding collided with a boat in Port St. Joe.
A spokesperson with Florida Fish and Wildlife said that the teenager had recently graduated from Bayside Academy. A second teenager was injured in the incident and was hospitalized. The accident occurred last Tuesday when a boat and jet ski collided. A second jet ski was behind the first and the driver witnessed the accident.
There were five people on the boat when the accident happened. Authorities said that the missing teenager’s life jacket was cut off by the propellor of the boat. No one on the boat was injured in the incident and no charges have been filed. Authorities said that their first priority was finding the missing teen.
Officials urge anyone on the water to be aware of others around them. As summer heats up, more people will be taking to the water as a way to cool off and enjoy the day. By staying aware of your surroundings, you are better able to prevent accidents.
